Konica Minolta bizhub Security
Konica Minolta is serious about security
Protecting sensitive electronic information is of greater concern than ever before. With the proliferation of connected multi-functional office products, Konica Minolta realizes that protecting electronic documents processed by bizhub secure MFPs is an absolute requirement in the 21st century workplace. At Konica Minolta, security is a design focus within our overall R&D effort. Our goal is to make bizhub products the most secure MFPs available on the market today. To prove it, we engineer every bizhub product as a total system, and provide ISO 15408 EAL 3 security certification for each product as a total system, in contrast to other MFPs in the market which are certified based on a security option or a specific function.
With bizhub, the entire system is secure
Before applying for ISO 15408 certification, we work with third-party security consultants to check each system for any weakness or vulnerability. This includes any possible threat from attack through the network or the phone line, as well as the possibility of the HDD or RAM being removed from the machine.
If any weakness is discovered, we secure it - so at the time of application, each bizhub system is 100% secure.
Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 3 Security Certification
A higher EAL number signifies more stringent evaluation and certification - but it may be even more important is to know exactly what is being certified.
The EAL 3 system certification is a rigorous standard to attain. What does this mean to our customers? - According to the Common Criteria Project Sponsoring Organizations' paper: Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation - "This EAL (EAL3) represents a meaningful increase in assurance from EAL2 by requiring more complete testing coverage of the security functions and mechanisms and/or procedures that provide some confidence that the TOE (Target of Evaluation) will not be tampered with during development."
Meeting the test of Common Criteria
The Common Criteria (CC) is the accepted international standard (ISO/IEC 15408) for electronic security in UT based products. It describes the framework in which users can specify their security requirements, vendors can implement and/or make claims about the security attributes of their products, and testing laboratories can evaluate the products to determine if they actually meet the claims. In other words, the Common Criteria provides assurance that the process of specification, implementation and evaluation of a computer security product has been conducted in a rigorous and standard manner.
Konica Minolta Security...Assured
Konica Minolta has invested a tremendous amount of engineering resources developing security related features for bizhub MFPs. Konica Minolta’s forward thinking development processes provide our customers with the technology required in today’s security conscious environments. Whether a customer is concerned about network intrusion, data theft or compliance, Konica Minolta bizhub technology can offer our customers a sense of security demanded by internal clients or federal legislation.
Forward Thinking
Konica Minolta is constantly looking to add enhanced security based technology without adversely affecting office productivity or negatively impacting the user experience. Unfortunately, the consequences of invoking a user sign-on and creating an elevated level of security on an MFP usually have a negative effect on user access to the machine.
To address this paradox, Konica Minolta has developed a biometric authentication device for the 21st century office. The Konica Minolta AU-101 biometric finger vein reader allows highly secure, simple, and quick user access to the bizhub. Instead of forcing someone to enter a user ID and password before accessing the secure MFP, the Biometric Authentication unit can recognize a unique physical characteristic of each user simply by placing a finger on the device. This system is more reliable and secure than a standard fingerprint reader; it can actually read the vein pattern in a person's finger. To make the Biometric Authentication Unit even more appealing, an administrator can set up the "Touch and Print" method of secure document output. This means a user can send a document to the bizhub and release it, simply by touching the Biometric Authentication device. Please contact your authorized Konica Minolta dealer for more information regarding specific AU-101 compatible secure bizhub MFP's.
